The Distractive Cost Of Keeping Our Options Open!
For some inexplicable reason we humans love the choice of multiple options. In fact I think I can safely say the only time we aren’t too happy about multiple choices is when they come in the form of an exam!
But what is even more weird than our obsession with choice is that the act of keeping our options open or simply opting for more choice doesn’t actually make our lives any easier but in fact makes it more complicated!
You see options tend to distract us. In fact in the worst case scenario when confronted with too many choices we simply shut down as a result of apathy or the inability to take action…the action of making a single choice!
This predicament I am sure is not unknown to the pioneer internet business marketer.
Information overload and the abundance of choice (especially across the internet) is the culprit most responsible for the death of many an aspiring internet business marketer.
I have a friend who for almost two years now has been reading up, researching, eagerly perusing each new tidbit on how to make money online and pondering what internet business to pursue, never mind the fact that I have told him countless times what he is doing is nothing more and nothing less than procrastination.
What he needs to do to get started is TAKE ACTION!
If there’s an internet marketing business seminar in town guess who’s the first person on their list? You guessed it…my pal the procrastinator!
Put simply options tend kill our power of focus! And focus is probably the single most influential ingredient for success whether offline or online.
How A War Was Won By Completely Eliminating Choice!
In 210 BC Xiang Yu a Chinese commander led his forces to a complete and decisive victory against the overwhelming and almost invincible army of the Qin dynasty!
So how did Xiang Yu pull off the impossible? In a word with the utmost focus!
Having crossed the Yangtze River Xiang Yu and his army stopped on its banks to rest for the night in preparation for the days of hard fighting ahead of them.
However in the wee hours of the morning his army awakened with alarm to find that their ships were on fire. Quickly rising to confront the stealthy invaders that had seemingly sneaked into their camp and got the jump on them his men were shocked to discover that it was none other than their commander, Xiang Yu, who had set their ships ablaze!
And not only that; Xiang Yu had seen that the cooking pots and most of their food reserves were destroyed!
Xiang Yu then calmly explained to his men that he had taken such measures to ensure that they were focused on only one thing…and that was victory! By eliminating the option of a safe retreat back on to their ships and a dash across the river his men had a great incentive to ensure victory…or die!
Also by destroying their cooking pots and most of their food supplies Xiang Yu left no room for doubt that either they were to be victorious and gain food supplies from the defeated enemy or they were to starve to death (assuming they were not first slaughtered by the unforgiving Qin army).
Anyway, the rest as they say is history. Having instilled tremendous focus in his forces, Xiang Yu and his army went on to win 9 consecutive and decisive victories completely decimating the greater forces of the Qin army!
This is the same strategy that the internet business marketers who actually make money online use to achieve their success. They find a system that works, concentrate and exploit it to the point of perfection whereby they make money from it then they repeat it over and over again!
