Isn’t it strange how people go to amazing lengths to come up with the most seductive and enticing Adwords Ads that will encourage the highest click through rate yet they never bother to do the same for their organic listings. Well actually it isn’t  that strange because with an Adword or Pay-Per-Click listing on the search engines it is the amount of money you are willing to pay which will determine how high and often your paid advert will appear on the respective search engine listings. The same cannot be said for the organic listings which are the ones that appear on the lefthand side of the search engine indexes and are influenced by such factors as SEO, age of the blog/website in question and the number and quality of backlinks it boasts aswell as web traffic flow.

A Magnetizing Description Will Greatly Increase Click-Through Rate

But with organic listings there are other factors at play, namely keywords and the rather whimsical search engine algorithms which generally (and fairly arbitrarily) determine how your blog’s description will appear on their listings.  Just like the paid listings found on the right hand side of the search engine indexes, a seductive and enticing description will increase the number of people who ultimately click on your listing to see what your website or blog has to offer. Whatever happens after they land on your blog or website is another story but the fact remains that getting them to click through to your blog is half the battle.

Your Blog’s Listing On The Search Engines Should Be Fashioned Like The Headline Of A Linkbait Piece

If you have ever conducted a Pay-Per-Click Ad campaign (Adwords) and you know what you are doing, then you will know that getting the topmost spot will not guarantee the greatest number of clicks but it will certainly ensure that you pay the most amount of money!

The real truth of the matter is that a well written advert that actually gels with your prospective customer in some manner (maybe that advert promises to furnish them with the precise solution to the problem that has been hounding them) will ensure that, even if your ad is near the bottom of the listings or in fact at the bottom, more people click through to your blog or website. But as I mentioned before that when it comes to organic listings the search engine algorithms do have a major say in how the description of the URL of your blog will appear.

And more often than not the description of your blog/website that turns up on the search engines is not your intended and is actually counter-productive as far as stimulating people to click-through to your blog is concerned. A cursory review of the listings found on many Google Page Ones (GPOs)  shows that most of them are terribly generic in nature, which perhaps is not too surprising because most webmasters are more concerned about getting their deisred and targeted keywords within the description and headline to enhance their chances of actually getting a GPO (Google Page One) listing the first place!

The fine balance between a search-engine optimized title and description and one that actually motivates people to click on your listing comes with practice and trial, however if your piece of online real estate happens to be a self-hosted WordPress blog then you’re in luck because there are actually plugins that make the task much easier by ”forcing” the search engines to adopt the actual description that you want to appear as with your URL listing.

If A Great Title And Description Will EnhanceYour Internet Business A Bad One Will Surely Kill It!

Killer Blog Description

Killer Blog Description

That image above shows what can go terribly wrong with your site’s or blog’s description on the SERPs (search engine index pages). I am not exactly sure how this happened but I was fiddling around with one of the most flexible and powerful SEO plugins for WordPress (if not the most powerful…and don’t worry I am going to list it at the end of the post) when this disaster happened. For some reason all my listings were incorrectly assigned that title and description by Google with the result that not only did I lose potential visitors but my blog dropped several pages off the SERPs for some very competitive keywords. Well luckily today was a Sunday.

And the real reason I blasted out this post was I was hoping to force the Google spider into a quick re-indexing of my blog to fix and update that disaster of a title and description. Well it seems to have worked! The only thing that remains now is to get my index placements back to what they were.

Okay I said I would give you the name of the WordPress plugin that enables you to tweak your SERP listings so here it is. Actually there are two of them so you decide which one you wish to use:

1. HeadSpace 2 Plugin

2. All In One SEO Plugin

The one I am using is the HeadSpace 2 Plugin
