Not so long ago the phrase on almost every major American and European business' lips was the catch phrase OUTSOURCING. So what was the big deal about outsourcing, why would that phrase get all those large corporations excited.
Simple...the big corps understood that by outsourcing a number of their services to up and rising "third-world" star countries, namely India (as far as internet based services go), they could save millions of dollars because they would be able to offer the same services at a frraction of the cost...or at least that was the premise.
The savings would be realized through reduced employment wages because instead of having to pay "exorbitant" home-turf wages (a veritable fortune compared to third world wages) they would be paying amounts equivalent to standard wages in the country to which the services were outsourced.
Well as is so often the case, the reality did not quite coincide with what was projected or anticipated.
Many companies such as various legal firms and corporations that took the plunge and outsourced a good number of their services have since retracted those outsourcing endeavors and are providing those services firmly back on their respective home turf, "exorbitant employee wages" notwithstanding!
What made them come back? Patriotism?
Ahh, don't be so naive...business only has one master and loyalty and that is the bottomline, aka ka-ching, aka money! It was profits that brought those outsourcing pioneers back, nothing more, nothing less.
The premise was that outsourcing would increase wages by reducing costs but that's not exactly how the story uinfolded.
What actually happened was that the outsourcing companies started losing a good number of major account, mega-revenue generating clients who got fed up with the headaches they encountered from outsourced customer support, language and colloquial expressionism barriers, and in the case of legal firms the problems associated with confidentiality of confidential material.
In essence those corporations really hadn't done their homework completely and had not scrutinized the entire picture properly, and thereby ended up pursuing a Penny Wise Pound Foolish strategy!
Fine and dandy, but what's that got to do with registering your domain names with GoDaddy.
If you don't know why then I suggest you read this article about domain name registration with Godaddy.
The bottomline is that when you register with domain register services such as GoDaddy you are assured of reliability and great service. True that reliability may come at extra cost but I think paying $7.95 with a well-known, well established, not to mention the biggest domain name provider that isn't going to disappear in the dead of night, far outweighs saving a dollar here or there and opting for some unknown domain names register that will in all likelihood cost you a fortune down the line (think...not being notified about your domain name renewal and either the loss of that domain name or paying an arm and a leg to get it back).
Having said that, Godaddy does have its fair share of annoying attributes. The biggest beef I have with them is their plethora of seemingly very attractive offerings. My advice to you is click on the underlined bold text above and read the article then you'll know better than to webhost with GoDaddy...register your domain name by all means, just get your webhosting from elsewhere.
By and large, ignore most of their offerings and concentrate on getting your domain name registered! Check out the graphic below to see how to go about it:

For the record I let that domain name go because I realized it was a waste of my money once I became more internet marketing savvy. Also for the record I had a less than stellar (i.e., totally crap)2-week experience with Godaddy Hosting that ended with godaddy pocketing $75 of mine!
And what did I have to show for it?
Frustration, anger, a bitter taste in my mouth, but also enough sense to see the wisdom in continuing my domain name registration with Godaddy!
